Abstract
Suggestions for organizing a public awareness campaign focus on victim information and referral, media relations, public awareness, education, and fundraising. Plans for a "March Against Fear" are designed to rally the community against violent crime through a march and speeches that advertise specific recommendations for addressing the problem. A total of 101 school safety ideas involve students and the community, and strategies for sponsoring an awards program are intended to honor persons who have made significant contributions to victim advocacy. Strategies for planning and implementing a "Crime Victims and the Media" seminar are designed to bring together victim advocates and media personnel to discuss the responsibilities and constraints the media faces in dealing with crime victims. Other suggested strategies pertain to the promotion of victims' rights legislation, working with libraries to promote victims' rights, a resource arena, a candlelight vigil, and victims' rights balloon lift.
