Despite extraordinary growth in the number of juvenile and adult sex-offender programs and treatment providers nationwide, it is not keeping pace with the demand.
Abstract
Two questionnaires were sent by the Safer Society Program to all identified service providers. Responses were received by 1,002, and 574 providers, respectively. The surveys were designed to elicit: 1) updated information in the same data fields as a previous survey in 1986, that is, to identify specialized services in various regions for referral purposes; and 2) specific information on perceived program models, 43 treatment modalities, and 3 modes of treatment delivery, for purposes of networking and monitoring trends. The Pacific States offer the most juvenile and adult services (28 services or 20 percent), while the Eastern States (2 services or 3 percent) and the West-south-central States (4 services or 6 percent) offer the least. Mississippi offers no such services, while California offers 11 percent of all such services nationwide. The survey includes all services identified as of September 1988.
