This brief report presents an overview of juvenile education services provided by Foxfire Schools in Zanesville, OH.
Abstract
This report is part of a series of reports that highlight programs supported by Title I, Part D, funding. The report presents information on the juvenile education services provided by Foxfire Schools in Zanesville, OH. The Foxfire Schools are an alternative-to-suspension program that serves students in grades 9-12 who are at risk of dropping out of school, as well as students aged 16 to 22 years old who wish to return to school after dropping out, who have been involved with either the juvenile or adult court systems, or who have been referred through a community agency. The learning environment at the schools is based on the principle of "developing the whole culture," which is accomplished by establishing the learning environment and conditions for learning, and providing core academics and credit-recovery options for students. The school also works to help students build community and family relationships. Data on the number of program participants is included in the report along with a brief discussion on the challenges and successes of the program.
