THE PURPOSE OF THIS PAPER IS TO REPORT THE LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT OF THE YOUTH RESOURCES PROJECT ADMINISTERED BY THE NEBRASKA STATE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES (DCS).
Abstract
THE YOUTH RESOURCES PROJECT, AS CONCEIVED BY THE DCS, HAD AS ITS MAIN FUNCTION THE MATCHING OF NON-ADJUDICATED YOUTH EXHIBITING MALADAPTIVE BEHAVIOR PATTERNS WITH ONE-TO-ONE VOLUNTEER COUNSELING AND/OR SERVICES AS NEEDED. THE OVERALL GOAL OF THE PROJECT WAS TO PREVENT YOUTHS FROM ENTERING THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. TWO DEVICES WERE USED TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL: FIRST, AN IMPROVED SCHOOL SITUATION, AS DETERMINED BY GRADES, ATTENDANCE, AND RAPPORT WITH SCHOOL PERSONNEL; SECOND, AN IMPROVED SELF-CONCEPT AS MEASURED BY THE TENNESSEE SELF CONCEPT SCALE. THIS EVALUATION REPORTS ON DATA COLLECTED DURING THE FIRST 12 MONTHS OF OPERATION IN THE ORIGINAL FOUR COMMUNITIES: FREMONT, GRAND ISLAND, HASTINGS, AND KEARNEY. THIS DATA IS COMPARED WITH THE PROJECT GOALS AS PROJECTED IN THE DESIGN. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)...MSP
