USING A CASE HISTORY, IT IS SHOWN THAT CONFLICT WITHIN A COMMUNITY MILIEU MAY BE SUCH TAHT REMOVAL FROM THE COMMUNITY TO ANOTHER ENVIRONMENT IS REQUIRED BEFORE TREATMENT CAN PROGRESS.
Abstract
IT IS POINTED OUT THAT, WHILE IT IS THE TRADITIONAL THEORETICAL VIEW THAT ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR IS STIMULATED FROM WITHIN THE OFFENDERS OWN PERSONALITY,IT IS SUGGESTED THAT CONFLICT WITHIN THE COMMUNITY CAN PRECIPITATE ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR, PARTICULARLY IN AN ADOLESCENT. IT IS ADVISED THAT TREATMENT WITHIN AN ENVIRONMENT REMOVED FROM THE COMMUNITY IS REQUIRED WHEN THE FOLLOWING THREE ELEMENTS ARE PRESENT:A CONTINUING COMMUNITY CONFLICT ON A IMPORTANT MATTER IN WHICH THE OFFENDER IS INVOLVED TO A STRONG DEGREE OVER A SIGNIFICANT PERIOD OF TIME;THE COMMUNITY CONFLICT IS SHOWN TO LEAD DIRECTLY TO ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR IN THE OFFENDER; AND THE ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR IN THE INDIVIDUAL LEADS TO FURTHER CONFLICT IN AND BETWEEN THE MAJOR INSTITUTIONS IN THE COMMUNITY OVER HOW TO DEAL WITH THE OFFENDER. IT IS NOTED THAT THE EXISTENCE OF THE CASE HISTORY ARGUES FOR A CAREFUL LOOK AT THE INTERACTION BETWEEN AN OFFENDER'S BEHAVIOR AND THE PREVALENCE OF SPECIFIC COMMUNITY CONFLICT IN JUDICIAL DISPOSITIONS.
