COURT APPEARANCE STATISTICS, RECIDIVISM RATES, AND BACKGROUND CHARACTERISTICS OF MALE JUVENILE OFFENDERS FROM A LONDON BOROUGH.
Abstract
DATA IS PRESENTED ON LOCALITY AND SCHOOL AS THEY INFLUENCED BOYS DURING 1959-1968. FIRST COURT APPEARANCE RATES FOR CENSUS ENUMERATION DISTRICTS AND WARDS SHOWED WIDE DIFFERENCES, SOME REMAINING CONSISTENTLY LOW OR HIGH WHILE OTHERS HAD CONSIDERABLE CHANGES IN THE DELINQUENCY RATE. WHEN THE MAIN EXTERNAL CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH SCHOOL WERE EXAMINED, NO RELATIONSHIP WAS FOUND BETWEEN DELINQUENCY AND SCHOOL SIZE, NEWNESS, AUTHORITY TYPES, OR COEDUCATION POLICY.
