Network analysis is described to illustrate its advantages for analyzing relationships within different size social groups. Illustrations and examples as well as a glossary of terms used in network analysis are provided.
Abstract
Maps of relationships are explained in conjunction with relational matrices that convey similar information. The diagrams and matrices can be used to identify strength, intensity, and frequency of relational ties between the subjects of analysis. Mathematical models are presented to illustrate the derivation of inferences from network models. A complex application of network analysis in the law enforcement field is explained. 12 figures and 14 references.
