This annual report presents statistics on index crimes committed in Nevada in 1980, based on data collected from law enforcement agencies throughout the State and analysis of those reports by the Nevada Department of Law Enforcement Assistance.
Abstract
The report presents a list of agencies contributing to the report, law enforcement employee data, and information on the Nevada Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Factors which affect the crime rate, including population characteristics, are outlined. Tables present data on Nevada crime trends between 1976 and 1980; information on Part I offenses by county; and data on murder and other personal crimes by age, sex, and race. Information on the number of arrests during the year, the value of property stolen, the number of law enforcement officers assaulted, and other areas of concern is given. Data indicate that 69,989 Index crimes were reported to police during 1980, representing a 14 percent increase over 1979. Violent crimes increased 24 percent and property crimes 13 percent over the 1979 figures. The number of murders, forcible rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larceny-thefts, and motor vehicle thefts increased over 1979. A total of 739 arson offenses were reported in 1980. Definitions of Part I and II Offenses are appended.
