Abstract
IT IS STRESSED THAT IN AN ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT, SPECIAL CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO MINIMIZE THE INTRUSIVENESS OF SECURITY SYSTEMS. THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES SEVERAL MAJOR CONSIDERATIONS THAT MUST BE EXAMINED BEFORE IMPLEMENTATION OF SECURITY SYSTEMS. THESE INCLUDE THE TYPES OF AREAS WHICH ARE TO BE SECURED, THE TYPE OF SECURITY EQUIPMENT TO PURCHASE, AND THE AMOUNT OF SECURITY PROTECTION NECESSARY. THE SEVERAL TYPES OF AVAILABLE SECURITY SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED, AND THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF EACH ARE OUTLINED. SUCH CONSIDERATIONS AS COST, ADAPTABILITY, EFFECTIVENESS, MAINTENANCE, AND INTRUSIVENESS OF THE SECURITY SYSTEMS ARE DISCUSSED. GUIDELINES ARE OFFERED FOR USE IN DESIGNING CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION SECURITY SYSTEMS FOR CAMPUS SECURITY.
