New Connections, a drug education and counseling program based in Concord, California, served over 9250 clients in fiscal year 1987-1988, including students participating in drug and alcohol abuse presentations, adults receiving consultations and participating in inservice training on substance abuse, students and parents receiving counseling through on-site school programs, and parents participating in presentations on drug and alcohol abuse prevention. Other activities included phone counseling, a teen drama project, and peer counseling.
Abstract
New Connections also distributed brochures and fact sheets on alcohol, various illicit drugs, and AIDS. Over 2,500 copies of a youth resource manual were distributed to school districts, police departments, and community agencies. New Connections also received wide media coverage during the reporting period. The activities at New Connections were funded through contracts, client and public donations, and fundraising. Four reports outline specific goals, objectives, and accomplishments associated with New Connections contracts with the City of Concord and Contra Costa County.
