Abstract
DRAWING ON THE WORKS OF EMINENT THEORISTS, THE AUTHOR POINTS OUT THE WEAKNESS OF CLASSICAL AND POSITIVIST THEORY, THE MAJOR CHARACTERISTIC OF THE LATTER BEING INSISTENCE ON THE UNITY OF SCIENTIFIC METHOD. ALSO DISCUSSED IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF LABELING THEORY, ETHNOMETHODOLOGY, AND THE NEW CONFLICT THEORY. THIS VOLUME ANALYZES THE WRITINGS AND PHILOSOPHIES OF SUCH INDIVIDUALS AS MATZ, DURKHEIM, MARX, ENGELS, AND BONGER, EMPHASIZING THROUGHOUT, THE NEED TO MOVE TOWARD A LARGER THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVE.
