GUIDELINES AND STANDARDS ARE SUGGESTED FOR DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING A SYSTEMS MODEL FOR OFFENDER EDUCATION.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE REHABILITATIVE AND COST-EFFECTIVE VALUE OF POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION AND BRIEFLY DESCRIBES THE SUCCESS OF THREE SPECIFIC PRISON COLLEGE PROGRAMS IN REDUCING RECIDIVISM - THE SAN DIEGO COLLEGE PAROLE PLAN, PROGRAMS AT THE NEWGATE RESOURCE CENTER, AND THE WASHINGTON, D.C. PRISON COLLEGE PROJECT. THE TEN BASIC COMPONENTS OF ALBERT R. ROBERTS' 'MACRO-MODEL OF CORRECTIONAL EDUCATION' ARE EXPLAINED TO ASSIST PROGRAM PLANNERS IN IDENTIFYING, IMPLEMENTING, EVALUATING, AND MODIFYING POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES. THE AUTHOR EMPHASIZES THAT SUCH COMPONENTS ARE ONLY FUNDAMENTALS TO BE USED IN THE FORMULATION OF A FULLY-INTEGRATED PROGRAM OF REHABILITATION THROUGH EDUCATION.
