Abstract
THE FIRST ARTICLE REVIEWS THE WORK AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS. IT ALSO SUGGESTS SOME METHODS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CAN USE IN CONSIDERING THE VARIOUS STANDARDS AND RELATING THEM TO LOCAL CONDITIONS. TE EVOLVING FEDERAL ROLE OF LEAA IS THE SUBJECT OF AN INTERVIEW WITH LEAA DEPUTY ADMINISTRATION CHARLES WORK. THE THIRD ARTICLE DISCUSSES THE NEWLY DEVELOPED SPECIALITY OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING AND HOW LOCAL OFFICIALS CAN USE IT TO DEVELOP EFFECTIVE AND JUST CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL STRATEGIES. THE FINAL ARTICLE EXCERPTS THE REMARKS OF THREE SPEAKERS AT THE 1973 'CONGRESS OF CITIES' MEETING. THE FIRST PRESENTATION FOCUSES ON INVOLVING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION.
