A JUNE, 1976, REPORT ON TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO NEW HAMPSHIRE IN EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF RADIO COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT FUNDED FOR STATE POLICE FOR 1970 TO 1975 AN RECOMMENDING IMPROVEMENTS.
Abstract
THIS COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK SERVES THE STATE AND COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENTS, 13 PRINCIPAL CITIES, AND 210 TOWNS. APPROXIMATELY 1,300 FULL-TIME AND 1,400 PART-TIME POLICE OFFICERS ARE INVOLVED IN THIS NETWORK, SERVING A STATE POPULATION OF 820,000 OVER AN AREA OF 9,304 SQUARE MILES. IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE CURRENT SYSTEM'S PERFORMANCE, THE CONSULTANT INTERVIEWED LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL AND DETERMINED THAT THEY WERE VERY SATISFIED WITH IT. IT WAS ALSO DETERMINED THAT THE STATE HAD ACCOMPLISHED ITS GOALS OF CONVERTING TO 150 MEGACYCLE OPERATION AND OF ESTABLISHING COUNTY-WIDE DISPATCH CENTERS IN EACH COUNTY AND DISPATCH CENTERS IN LARGER CITIES. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR RECORDING CRITERION USED FOR APPROVING NEW EQUIPMENT, FOR CONTROLLING THE NUMBER OF FREQUENCIES USED THROUGHOUT THE STATE, AND FOR THE TRAINING OF PERSONNEL.
