THE STAFF TRAINING PROJECT PROGRAM IS DIRECTED TOWARD THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE ENTIRE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM IN THE STATE.
Abstract
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE DEVELOPMENT STAGE WAS TO DESIGN A TRAINING PROGRAM TO MEET THE NEEDS AND GOALS OF THE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM OF NEW HAMPSHIRE. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE OPERATIONAL STAGE IS TO IMPLEMENT THIS TRAINING PROGRAM. THE PLAN IS A RESULT OF THE COMBINED EFFORTS OF CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATORS AND STAFF WHO HAVE PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN THE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM AND ACADEMICIANS WHO HAVE THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE REPRESENTING THE DEPARTMENTS OF SOCIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY, AND EDUCATION. THE INSERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM SHOULD DEVELOP THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTITUDES OF THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER. SOME OF THE GOALS OF SUCH TRAINING ARE - 1. TO IMPROVE THE CAPABILITIES OF PERSONNEL. 2. TO INCREASE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PERSONNEL AND THEREBY OBTAIN GREATER EFFICIENCY AND ECONOMY IN OPERATIONS. 3. TO PROMOTE PERSONNEL CAPACITY TO RECOGNIZE, UNDERSTAND, AND SOLVE THE PROBLEMS WHICH OCCUR IN CORRECTIONAL WORK. 4. TO PREPARE THE PERSON FOR GREATER JOB SATISFACTION AND BROADER CAREER SERVICE. THE PURPOSE OF SUCH A TRAINING PROGRAM IS TO ACQUIRE THE LATEST AND MOST RELIABLE INFORMATION IN THE VARIOUS FIELDS OF CORRECTIONS AND TO ANALYZE AND TO DISCUSS PROBLEMS AND PROCEDURES COMMON TO CORRECTIONS GENERALLY AND TO SPECIFIC AREAS. AN AWARENESS MUST BE DEVELOPED THAT THE CORRECTIONAL PROCESS IS A CONTINUUM FROM PROBATION TO FINAL DISCHARGE FROM PAROLE. IT IS HOPED THAT THE TRAINING PROGRAM CAN DEVELOP INITATIVE, IMAGINATION, AND COURAGE IN THE TRAINEES, INITATIVE TO CRITICALLY EVALUATE PRESENT METHODS, IMAGINATION TO CREATE NEW ONES, AND COURAGE TO DEPART FROM TRADITION.
