The annual report of the New Jersey State Police for the year ending June 30, 1992, highlights the activities and accomplishments of the Investigations, Division Staff, Field Operations, Intelligence Services, Emergency Management, Administration, Special and Technical Services, and Records and Identification Sections.
Abstract
The New Jersey State Police's organizational structure is designed to provide maximum efficiency and effectiveness in the performance of its diversified functions. The Investigations Section is responsible for directing, coordinating, and controlling the Criminal Investigation Bureau and processed over 2,251 requests for criminal history checks and investigative history information during 1992. In addition to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, the Investigations Section has a Data Management Unit, a Major Crime Unit, a Homicide Evaluation and Assessment Tracking Squad, an Arson Unit, a Bomb and Explosives Investigation Team, a Fugitive Unit, a Missing Persons Unit, a Cargo Theft and Robbery Unit, a Criminal Enterprise and Racketeering Bureau, and other special units and squads. The Division Staff Section is responsible for governmental security, training, internal complaints, labor issues, media dissemination, and aviation operations. The Field Operations Section focuses on coordinating police activities related to special events, crowd control, prison riots, disasters, and traffic programs. Accident investigation, drug interdiction, and hazardous materials transportation are primary responsibilities of this section. The Intelligence Services Section collects and analyzes data received from multiple sources and is actively involved in casino monitoring and counterterrorism. The Emergency Management Section concentrates its efforts on severe weather; hazardous materials planning, training, and response; radiological preparedness; and emergency operations plan development. The Administration Section operates as the New Jersey State Police's support function, the Special and Technical Services Section controls the Forensic Science Bureau and similar organizations, and the Records and Identification Section collects and stores the data necdessary to fulfill the mandate of each law enforcement agency within New Jersey.
