THIS REPORT DETAILS THE COMMISSION'S OPERATIONS AND ACTIVITIES, AND PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZED CRIME PROBLEM AND THE EFFORTS UNDERTAKEN TO COMBAT IT.
Abstract
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY THE COMMISSION WITH RESPECT TO PUBLIC ATTITUDES AND ATTACKS ON THE ALLEGED 'SECRECY' OF THE COMMISSION'S OPERATIONS ARE OUTLINED. THE REPORT THEN DESCRIBES THE COMMISSION STAFF, THE HISTORY OF THE COMMISSION'S FUNDING, THE COMMISSION ORGANIZATION, AND THE OPERATIONAL PHILOSOPHY OF THE COMMISSION. ORGANIZED CRIME ACTIVITIES IN THE AREAS OF ILLICIT DRUG TRAFFIC, FENCING OPERATIONS, PENETRATION OF THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY, LABOR RACKETEERING, GAMBLING, AND CORRUPTION ARE DISCUSSED. ALSO EXAMINED ARE REVISIONS OF THE ORGANIZED CRIME ACT.
