During the fiscal year that ended June 30, 1992, the New Mexico Judicial Standards Commission received 63 complaints of judicial misconduct or other problems and disposed of 56 cases from the current or previous year.
Abstract
The Commission investigates complaints that a judge has been guilty of willful misconduct in office, has persistently failed to perform or is unable to perform the duties of a judge, is habitually under the influence of intoxicating substances, or is suffering from a physical or mental disability that is permanent and that prevents performance of judicial duties. The cases involved judges alleged to have used obscene language while taking part in a project against the local school board, writing a letter to the editor to respond to a defendant's letter, being sexually involved with a defendant, engaging in ex parte communications with defendants and witnesses, and other offenses.
