Abstract
AN ORGANIZATIONAL CHART DETAILS THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE VARIOUS DIVISIONS. THE STATISTICAL SUMMARY DETAILS OPERATIONS BY PATROL ZONES, THEN PRESENTS A PICTURE OF OPERATIONS STATEWIDE. IN RESPONSE TO CERTAIN NEEDS THREE SPECIAL UNITS WERE FORMED IN 1976-1977. THE TACTICAL TEAM CONSISTS OF 2 UNITS OF 11 MEN EACH, TRAINED IN TERRORISM AND HOSTAGE SITUATIONS. IN AUGUST 1977, MEMBERS OF THIS TEAM SUCCESSFULLY NEGOTIATED THE RELEASE OF HOSTAGES HELD BY A MENTAL PATIENT. THE PATIENT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INJURY TO HIMSELF OR HIS HOSTAGES. A DIVING TEAM FORMED IN 1963 WAS EXPANDED IN 1977 AND OFTEN CALLED TO ASSIST IN DROWNING ACCIDENTS IN NEIGHBORING STATES. IN 1976 SEARCH AND RESCUE FUNCTIONS WERE ORGANIZED INTO A SPECIAL UNIT TO COORDINATE THE EFFORTS OF SKILLED VOLUNTEERS, AND OF STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES. THE STATISTICAL PORTION SUMMARIZES THE BUDGET, CRIME STATISTICS, ARREST FIGURES, DISPOSITIONS, TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT, FLEET SAFETY FIGURES, AND MANHOURS SPENT IN VARIOUS ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES. GRAPHIC AND TABULAR DATA ARE APPENDED. (GLR)
