Guidelines are provided for mediators as to ways to handle protracted clients.
Abstract
The mediator's task is to uncover and interrupt the games family members play and to provide an option for change. Mediators need to offer some type of intervention that stops the dysfunctional behaviors from occurring. A mediator sets forth rituals to institute change. Some basic considerations for mediators with difficult clients include the use of hypotheses, the use of circular questions and thinking, reconsideration of what neutrality really means, and the consideration of strategies.
