Abstract
Data on local courts address the number of cases completed, the most frequently charged offense, and the percentage of charges proven. Data on defendants include the outcome of the case, whether or not defendants had legal representation, and the percentages of persons represented and unrepresented who were found guilty. Data on bail status are also included. Other data on local courts pertain to sentences; the number of persons found guilty by age and gender; court delay; and the region of the court. Data are also provided on apprehended violence orders (AVO's). The four tables for children's courts pertain to the number of persons charged; the number of cases completed; type of offenders; and the number of persons charged by sex, type of offense, and age. For the higher courts, the data on registrations address the number of cases registered, the cases committed for trial, the cases committed for sentence, and the cases committed for trial as a percentage of all registrations. Other data on the higher courts pertain to the characteristics of cases completed; the number of offenses charged; the percentage of persons who proceeded to trial; the percentage of persons who proceeded to sentence; prior convictions; persons found guilty by age and gender; bail status; court case delay; and appeals against conviction and against sentence.
