Abstract
Highlights from this report for 2010 include: for local courts in New South Wales (NSW), 120,662 persons were charged with a crime with driving under the influence and common assault being the most frequent charge; for children's court in NSW, 8,630 adolescents were charged with an offense with the most frequently charged offense being common assault followed by property damage; for higher courts in NSW, 311 persons were charged in supreme court and 3,698 persons were charged in district court with the most frequently charged offenses being aggravated sexual assault and fraud. This report from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research presents data on criminal cases finalized in 2010 in NSW local, children's, district, and supreme courts. Data for this report came from court data as well as Corrective Services NSW and NSW Juvenile Justice Custody data. The information in this report is presented in four sections: New South Wales Criminal Courts Executive Summary; Section 1 - New South Wales Local Courts Tables; Section 2 - New South Wales Children's Court Tables; and Section 3 - New South Wales Higher Courts Tables. The information listed for each court for the number of persons charged and number of charges finalized includes type of offense charged, outcome of charge, outcome of appearance, legal representation, bail status, type of principal offense, penalty for principal offense, and demographic information for all persons charged.
