This article describes some of the latest police vehicle accessories introduced at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference held in Boston during the fall of 2006.
Abstract
Twenty-eight vehicle accessories are featured, which range from a Law Enforcement Vehicle Armor system to Windows Vista for in-vehicle computers to LED lighting. Among the products described is the SuperVisor TL produced by Code 3, Inc., which is an interior lighting system that fits in the visor area near the top of the windshield and features special housing to prevent light from reflecting back into the driver’s eyes. Datalux’s new detachable computer keyboard has been manufactured with a protection system that prevents accidental side-impact key damage and unintentional key strokes. It also boasts backlit keys that are ideal with nighttime and low-light use and is sealed to protect from spilled liquids. The new Compact Digital In-Car Video System for Law Enforcement is also described, which was produced by Digital Ally. The DVR system can be built directly into a replacement rearview mirror and is hidden behind a high-quality one-way mirror when not in use. Integrian’s DigitalPatroller DP-2 was also showcased at the conference. This system offers advanced video surveillance for police and other public safety vehicles. The system features a four-camera simultaneous recording capability, additional audio inputs, and higher resolution cameras. A traffic speed-calming device developed by MPH Industries was shown at the conference, which features a rugged trailer that presents highly visible reminders of the speed at which drivers are traveling versus the posted speed limit. Other products presented at the conference include the Patrol Power, a vehicle-specific wiring solution, and binocular-style, handheld device known as Pro-Lite+ that measures the range and velocity of selected targets.
