The crime Index in New York State increased a scant .7 percent in 1981. Of the Index total, 15.5 percent were violent offenses and 84.5 percent were nonviolent.
Abstract
Both New York City and upstate New York showed increases in violent offenses, compared to last year. Nearly 28.5 percent of the violent offenses involved the use of handguns. Tables, graphs, and diagrams present data on 5-year trends, homicide, arson, and Part I offenses. Data are given on arrests, indictments and dispositions, sentences, and law enforcement personnel killed or assaulted. Other data pertain to probation, correctional services, youth, parole, crime victims, and victim compensation.
