THIS REPORT DATED OCTOBER, 1974, ANALYZES THE SPACE PROBLEMS OF THE VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE NEWARK (NJ) MUNICIPAL COURT WHICH HAS JURISDICTION IN TRAFFIC, HOUSING, FAMILY, INDICTABLE AND NON-INDICTABLE CASES.
Abstract
THE CONSULTANT FOUND THAT THE COMBINATION OF INCREASED WORKLOAD, INCREASED STAFF, AND PUBLIC USAGE WITH A DECAYING FACILITY HAS CREATED CRITICAL SPATIAL NEEDS. TO DEVELOP THIS REPORT, VISITS AND INTERVIEWS AT THE MUNICIPAL COURT AND THE POLICE BUILDING WERE CONDUCTED. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE THAT AN ARCHITECT BE RETAINED BY THE COURT TO DEVELOP A FULL SCALE PROGRAM OF NEEDS. THIS REPORT IS TO SERVE AS AN ARTICULATION OF SUCH FEASIBLE IMPROVEMENTS AS INCREASED AND MORE ORGANIZED COURTROOM SPACE, MORE PHYSICAL SECURITY MEASURES, BETTER CIRCULATION, BETTER ACOUSTICS, ADEQUATE JUDGE'S CHAMBERS, AND A LARGER AND BETTER ORGANIZED FAMILY COURT. SPATIAL NEEDS FOR COURT OFFICIALS, OPTIONS FOR TEMPORARY EXPANSION, ORGANIZATIONAL CHARTS, AND FLOOR SPACE SPECIFICATIONS ARE INCLUDED....TWH
