STUDY OF SKYDDSVARNET'S WORK WITH 25 CONDITIONALLY RELEASED MALE PRISONERS IN SWEDEN, INCLUDING INFORMATION OBTAINED THROUGH PERSONAL INTERVIEWS WITH THE FORMER PRISONERS AND 20 SKYDDSVARNET SOCIAL WORKERS.
Abstract
SKYDDSVARNET IS A LONG-ESTABLISHED VOLUNTARY WELFARE SOCIETY WHICH PROVIDES SUPERVISORY SERVICES TO PRISONERS ON RELEASE. IT ALSO PROVIDES SPECIAL HOSTELS FOR RELEASED PRISONERS. THE STUDY WAS PRIMARILY EXPLORATORY, AND IT WAS HOPED THAT THE REPORT WOULD ENCOURAGE FURTHER STUDIES ON THE VARIOUS QUESTIONS THAT HAVE COME TO LIGHT CONCERNING SOME GENERAL AND SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF PAROLE. THE FORMER PRISONERS' COMMENTS ON THE SOCIAL WORKERS' EFFECTIVENESS AND THE SOCIAL WORKERS' COMMENTS ON CAUSES OF RECIDIVISM ARE INCLUDED. A COLLECTION OF POINTS FOR DISCUSSION, A SAMPLE FORM USED IN COLLECTING BACKGROUND DATA, A SERIES OF QUESTIONS USED IN CONDUCTING INTERVIEWS AND TABLES COMPARING THE RESPONSES OF FORMER PRISONERS WITH THOSE OF SOCIAL WORKERS ARE INCLUDED IN APPENDIXES. --IN SWEDISH, WITH SUMMARY IN ENGLISH
