The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) Information Center Quarterly Summary is a compilation of information received from the directors of corrections in all 50 states, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. This quarter's survey addresses the issue of recidivism.
Abstract
Agencies across the nation have very different definitions and approaches to the problem, and the results of recidivism data obtained by tracking releases or by noting prior incarcerations are not comparable. Included is information on capacity changes, litigation, legislation, and commissioner changes. An overview of prison populations 1987-88 is also provided. A special AIDS information update is provided, and a report providing background data on prison populations, construction plans, and funding sources is included in the document. 3 tables and 4 footnotes
