This book outlines a police training program for using the nightstick, teaching stances, striking areas, blocking, defenses against grabs and stick attacks, and arrest techniques.
Abstract
Specifications for a nightstick are first presented, along with suggstions for using the leather thong secured to the base of the grip. The manual describes front and rear ready positions and several types of stances. It identifies body areas that can be struck with the nightstick to stop an assailant effectively and quickly without causing irreparable harm. Areas on the head and throat that should never be struck are pinpointed. The book describes ways to execute an effective block; to counter when an opponent grabs an individual's limbs, clothing, or nightstick; and to defend oneself when unarmed. Other nightstick techniques explained are come-along and choke holds, removing an uncooperative suspect from a vehicle, and compelling a suspect into a patrol car. The manual concludes with special exercises and drills that help maintain proper coordination and skill with the nightstick. Photographs illustrate all techniques.
