Abstract
Ten projects are summarized, and eight other projects are listed without summaries, but with grant numbers, NCJ numbers (National Criminal Justice Reference Service), and website addresses where more information on the projects can be found. Fifteen other projects are listed under the section on "NIJ in the Journals," with grant numbers, NCJ numbers, and website addresses, along with authors listed under each report title. The 10 research projects summarized in this report pertain to the effectiveness of batterer treatment; policing on Indian reservations; a case study of rural policing; the application of static secondary ion mass spectrometry to trace evidence analysis; an aftercare program for substance-abusing felons; illegal aliens in Federal, State, and local criminal justice systems; the effectiveness of efforts to strengthen police-resident relations in El Centro, Calif.; community prosecution in Washington, D.C.; a study of law enforcement/criminal justice multijurisdictional information systems; and the implementation and impact of "three strikes" laws. The grant number, NCJ number, and a website address are provided for each research project. Readers are advised to access the full reports of the research in order to obtain details on such topics as research design, data analysis, and study limitations.
