Substantive topics to be included in the proposed agenda of the Ninth United Nations (UN) Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders concern international cooperation to strengthen the rule of law, crime prevention, and criminal justice; action against national and transnational economic, organized, and environmental crime; and criminal justice and police systems.
Abstract
Workshops are planned to specifically address extradition, mass media's role in crime prevention, violent crime prevention, environmental protection, and international cooperation in criminal justice system management. In accordance with the main substantive topics of the congress, consideration will be paid to bilateral and multilateral cooperation, crime associated with technical advances, the UN role in criminal justice research and technical assistance, and constitutional and legislative reforms to improve criminal justice administration. The congress also plans to focus on law enforcement, crime proceeds, crime prevention measures, criminal business practices, community policing, police recruitment and career development, prosecution, courts, corrections, and lawyers. An annex contains an outline of central themes to be discussed at the congress. 1 note
