The 1991-1992 annual report of North Carolina's Administrative Office of the Courts covers court system organization and operations, court resources, and trial court caseflows.
Abstract
North Carolina's court system includes 44 Superior Court districts for administrative purposes, 60 Superior Court districts for elective purposes, 38 District Court jurisdictions, 37 prosecutorial districts, and 11 public defender districts. The system has seven Supreme Court justices, 12 Court of Appeals judges, 83 Superior Court judges, and 179 District Court judges. Other authorized personnel include district attorneys, clerks, magistrates, public defenders, juvenile services personnel, and court administrators. With a total of 4,520 personnel, the court system had a total budget of $215,113,968 in 1991-1992. Detailed information and data on court organization and operations are presented. Extensive data are also provided on appropriations, expenditures, receipts, indigent representation cases, and trial court caseflows. Court workloads, legislative developments affecting court operations, juvenile law changes, funding for indigent defense, sentencing, prison populations and facilities, criminal offenses, and judicial salaries are highlighted.
