THIS THIRD NOSR GUIDE DESCRIBES A METHOD FOR COMBINING STAFF TRAINING AND PROGRAM PLANNING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITY YOUTH PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THE NOSR TRAINING METHOD GUIDES STAFF IN PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING THE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, TRANSFERRING SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO THE STAFF AS THEY ARE NEEDED FOR DIFFERENT PHASES IN THE PROGRAM. ONE ADVANTAGE OF APPROACHING PROGRAM PLANNING AS A FUNCTION OF STAFF TRAINING IS THAT ROLES ARE DEFINED AND REDEFINED AS NEEDED TO ACCOMPLISH SPECIFIC PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION FUNCTIONS. THROUGH A STAGGERED SEQUENCE OF TRAINING SESSIONS, PROGRAM STAFF GAIN A CONCISE UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS RELATED TO SPECIFIC TASKS AND ACTIVITIES. THE BASIC STAFF TRAINING SEQUENCE ENCOMPASSES SEVEN SESSIONS ADDRESSING PLANNING FUNCTIONS. THE PRIMARY CONTENT, DIRECTION, AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING SESSIONS RELATED TO PLANNING FUNCTIONS, AS WELL AS THOSE RELATED TO MAINTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENTAL FUNCTIONS, ARE OUTLINED. A SAMPLE NOSR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SCHEDULE IS APPENDED. FOR A RELATED DOCUMENT AND OTHER NOSR IMPLEMENTATION GUIDES, SEE NCJ 44987-44988 AND 44991-44996.
