This report presents statistics on crimes reported to the police of England and Wales from July 1996 through June 1997.
Abstract
Ninety-two percent of the offenses recorded by the police were property offenses; 7 percent were violent crimes. Offenses of violence against by person increased 8 percent from the previous year, sex offenses increased 7 percent, and robberies declined 3 percent. Residential burglary declined 10 percent; nonresidential burglary declined by 9 percent. The number of recorded burglaries declined in all but four police agency areas.
