DESCRIPTION OF A PROCESS DEVELOPED AT TWO INSTITUTIONS FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENTS NEAR MONTREAL TO SERVE AS A TOOL FOR MEASURING THE PROGRESS, OR LACK OF IT, TOWARD RESOCIALIZATION OF THE INMATES.
Abstract
SUCH FACTORS AS INITIATIVE, INDEPENDENCE, INTEGRATION, ACCEPTANCE, AND PARTICIPATION ARE MADE THE SUBJECT OF OBSERVATION, AND RECORDS ARE KEPT. INSTANCES OF SUCH THINGS AS LOSS OF TEMPER AND BEING HELPFUL TO ANOTHER ARE NOTED. THE FINDINGS ARE ANALYZED AND THE RESULTS APPLIED IN THE FURTHER TREATMENT OF THE INMATE. THE OBSERVATION OF THE BEHAVIOR OF JUVENILES IN INSTITUTIONS PROCESS, AS IT IS CALLED, IS STILL IN THE EXPERIMENTAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE. A LIST OF THE VARIOUS COMMENTS CONCERNING INMATE BEHAVIOR WHICH CAN BE MADE IN CARRYING OUT THIS PROCESS IS INCLUDED AS AN APPENDIX. THE TEACHERS HABITUALLY NOTE DOWN THE COMMENTS ON THE BASIS OF PERSONAL OBSERVATION OF INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS. THE COLLECTED COMMENTS CONSTITUTE THE FINDINGS, WHICH ARE THEN ANALYZED. ONLY COMMENTS SELECTED FROM THE PRESCRIBED LIST MAY BE USED. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, SEE NCJ-30348. --IN FRENCH
