THIS PAPER REPORTS ON ONE YEAR'S EXPERIENCE IN PROVIDING PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES TO THE INMATES OF THE DENVER COUNTY JAIL IN DENVER, COLORADO.
Abstract
THE GOALS OF THE PROGRAM STRESSED DIAGNOSTIC AND REFERRAL SERVICES AND CRISIS-INTERVENTION ACTIVITIES. OF 545 INMATES EVALUATED, 22 PERCENT WERE DIAGNOSED AS PSYCHOTIC AND 23 PERCENT HAD A HISTORY OF LONG-TERM OR MULTIPLE HOSPITALIZATIONS. THE AUTHORS BRIEFLY DISCUSS THE IMPLICATIONS OF THESE DATA IN TERMS OF THE PROBLEM OF PROVIDING ADEQUATE PSYCHIATRIC CARE FOR SUCH A POPULATION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...MSP
