PROJECT ACTIVITIES, BUDGETARY INFORMATION, PROJECT OBJECTIVES, PROGRESS IN MEETING THESE OBJECTIVES, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PROGRAM CHANGES ARE INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT ON THE OCEANSIDE BURGLARY PREVENTION PROGRAM.
Abstract
ACTIVITIES OF THIS PROJECT INCLUDED PUBLIC AWARENESS PRESENTATIONS, PUBLICITY ABOUT BURGLARY PREVENTION, HOME AND COMMERCIAL INSPECTIONS, SURVEILLANCE AND STAKE-OUTS, PROPERTY RECOVERY ACTIVITIES, MARKING OF PERSONAL PROPERTY AND DATA COLLECTION OF BURGLARY STATISTICS. PUBLIC INTEREST IN THESE PROGRAMS WAS FOUND TO BE DECLINING. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT WERE TO REDUCE BURGLARIES BY TWENTY PERCENT FROM THE 1972 LEVEL, TO DECREASE THE NUMBER OF BURGLARIES TO 14 PER THOUSAND POPULATION, TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF ARRESTS BY 10 PERCENT, TO INSURE THAT 25 PERCENT OF THE INSPECTED HOMES AND BUSINESS WILL IMPLEMENT RECOMMENDED MEASURES FOR BURGLARY PREVENTION, AND TO INCREASE THE RECOVERY TO PROPERTY BY 20 PERCENT COMPARED TO 1972 FIGURES. ONLY THE ARREST AND RECOVERY OF PROPERTY OBJECTIVES WERE MET. SINCE THE BURGLARY PREVENTION PROGRAMS PROVED TO BE UNSUCCESSFUL, THEY HAVE BEEN EARMARKED FOR ELIMINATION IN THE SECOND YEAR OF THE GRANT. INSTEAD, GREATER EMPHASIS ON CRIME INVESTIGATION AND APPREHENSIONS OF BURGLARIES IS PROPOSED. THE RECOMMENDED CHANGES IN OBJECTIVES ARE INCLUDED.
