The report describes adult offenders who were first - and re-released from Wisconsin adult correctional institutions during calendar year 1979.
Abstract
The information was routinely collected from adult correctional record offices and social services staff. Adult correctional institutions of release total nine facilities. Tables show trends in selected characteristics of adult releases during the period 1975-1979. The low for the period was 931 in 1975 and the high was 1,194 in 1977. The proportion of released men who had been committed from Milwaukee County dropped to 37.5 percent, the lowest level in the 5-year period. The median length of stay edged upward during the period, rising from 17.8 months in 1975 to 20.5 months in 1979. It rose by 1.2 months in each of the last 2 years. Average (mean) lengths of stay ranged from 3.5 months to 5.1 months higher than the median lengths of stay. This occurred because small numbers had much longer stays than most of the first releases. The report contains 21 tables, some of which are footnoted. (Author abstract modified)
