This report provides information on selected characteristics for offenders under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Department of Corrections who were on parole as of December 31, 1994.
Abstract
Thirty percent of offenders on parole had committed violent crimes, including robbery, assault, sexual assault, and homicide. The single most common offense was drug offenses, for which 45 percent of the offenders had been committed to supervision. Sixty percent of the parole caseload was black, 21 percent White, and 19 percent Hispanic. The median age for offenders under supervision was 32. Forty-four percent of all parolees were committed from the State's four biggest counties. These figures include prison, young adult, and juvenile parolees, as well as 1,363 female offenders.
