THIS POLICE TRAINING MANUAL ILLUSTRATES DEFENSIVE PROCEDURES FOR THE ARREST AND CONTROL OF SUSPECTS INVOLVING WEAPONLESS TACTICS OR USE OF THE POLICE BATON.
Abstract
AMONG THE MOST DANGEROUS SITUATIONS THAT THE POLICE OFFICER MUST FACE ARE THOSE INVOLVING ARREST OR CONTROL OF A SUSPECT. THIS POLICE TRAINING MANUAL PRESENTS A FIELD-TESTED SYSTEM OF ARREST AND CONTROL PROCEDURES DESIGNED TO PROVIDE MAXIMUM SAFETY FOR THE OFFICER AND MINIMUM INJURY TO THE SUSPECT. BASED ON THE LEVERAGE PRINCIPLES OF MARTIAL ARTS, THESE METHODS OF SELF DEFENSE AND CONTROL RELY ON THE EMPTY HAND OR POLICE BATON RATHER THAN FIREARMS. DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED ON METHODS OF APPROACHING THE SUSPECT, INITIATING CONTACT, HANDCUFFING AND SEARCHING, AND BREAKING AWAY FROM THE SUSPECT'S GRIP. TWO HANDED AND ONE HANDED BATON TECHNIQUES ARE ALSO DEMONSTRATED. THE MANUAL INCLUDES 340 LARGE PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH CLEARLY ILLUSTRATE EACH STEP OF THE TECHNIQUES. CONCISE INSTRUCTIONS ACCOMPANY EACH SET OF PHOTOGRAPHS. (SNI ABSTRACT)
