This booklet describes and illustrates techniques, based on karate, that police officers can learn to use whenever arrest and control tactics are needed and during interrogations.
Abstract
The techniques covered include the forward and modified forward stance, the front wrist-lock, chokes and sleeper holds (application of pressure to the carotid artery), and searching and breaking techniques (bear hug, choke hold, badge or clothing grab). Techniques for protecting and using an officer's baton are also described; the text notes that the baton's greatest weakness is the officer's overconfidence coupled with a lack of training and/or practice. Two-hand and one-hand techniques involving the baton are illustrated along with the use of various stances when using the baton. Numerous photographs are included.
