EFFORTS TO MAKE POLICEMEN'S WIVES, FIANCEES OR MOTHERS FEEL INCLUDED IN THE OFFICER'S OCCUPATION, TO DECREASE FAMILY TENSIONS AND FEARS.
Abstract
THE ESTIMATES OF HIGH DIVORCE RATES AND TURNOVER RATES AMONG POLICEMEN ARE CITED. THE AUTHOR STATES THAT THE POLICE CADET'S RELATION WITH HIS WIFE, FIANCEE OR MOTHER CAN CAUSE CONSIDERABLE PRESSURE. A COURSE WAS DEVISED FOR THE WOMEN, EMPHASIZING A 'FAMILY OCCUPATION' CONCEPT AND DEALING WITH INFORMATION THAT MIGHT ASSIST THE WOMEN IN STABILIZING AND STRENGTHENING THE FAMILY RELATIONSHIP. POLICE ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION, OFF-DUTY ACTIVITIES, AND EMOTIONAL PRESSURES ON THE OFFICER AND FAMILY WERE ALL DISCUSSED, LEAD BY MALE INSTRUCTORS AND WIVES OF FORMER POLICE OFFICERS. THE WOMEN WERE ALSO INCLUDED IN THE CADETS' GRADUATION CEREMONY TO FURTHER INVOLVE THEM IN THEIR MEN'S CAREER.
