This document presents statistics on offenses reported to the police, offenses investigated, recidivism, sanctions, and imprisonment in Norway in 1997, as well as data for the period 1960-97.
Abstract
An introduction explains the terms used, the data sources, and sources of further information. The statistics cover all types of crime, larceny, other crime against property, murder, rape, other violent crimes, incest, other sex offenses, drug law offenses, crimes investigated, crimes cleared, and the numbers of persons charged. They also provide data on the total prosecutions, prosecutions dropped for specific reasons, fines by means of tickets, and cases transferred to the Conflict Council. Further statistics focus on the persons charged by sex, age, and type of principal offense; the recidivism in a 5-year period among persons charged in 1992, by age, sex, number of years involved, and offense; sentences by type of offense and the offender's criminal record; and numbers and characteristics of inmates.
