Summary statistics on the work of Ohio courts in 1996 showed a record 3,114,886 new cases were filed: 2,888 in the Ohio Supreme Court, 12,455 in 12 appellate districts, 156,042 in the general division of common pleas courts, 302,934 in the juvenile division, 79,229 in the domestic relations division, and 97,615 in the probate division.
Abstract
Municipal and county courts combined for a record total of 2,462,412 new cases files, 79 percent of the statewide total of 3,114,886. The court of claims reported 1,311 new filings in 1996, with an additional 5,976 new victims of crime claims. Detailed caseload statistics are provided for the Ohio Supreme Court and other Ohio courts. Data are tabulated on cases filed, criminal and civil appeals, professional tort and product liability cases, worker compensation, foreclosures, domestic relations cases, probation cases, juvenile delinquency, juvenile dependency and neglect, and municipal and county courts.
