The fiscal year 1980 annual report is presented for the Ohio Division of Parole and Community Services.
Abstract
Ohio's Division of Parole and Community Services is responsible for the administration of community-oriented correctional programs and services. In assisting in the rehabilitation of nonincarcerated offenders, the Division administers programs through its three bureaus -- the Adult Parole Authority, the Bureau of Community Services, and the Bureau of Adult Detention Facilities and Services. Expenditures for the Division during fiscal 1980 were $13,753,674, a 21 percent increase over the previous year's expenditures. In 1980, the Division's State-funded positions increased from 478 to 486, while the federally funded positions decreased by 6. The training office continued to present the ongoing programs of firearms training and qualification, self-defense, entrance training for probation and parole officers, and management seminars for supervisors. The 1980 activities of the four sections of the Bureau of Adult Parole Authority are described. These sections are Parole Supervision, Parole Board, Probation Development, and Administration and Research. The responsibilities of the Bureau of Community Services are the certification and funding of halfway houses and the development of specialized community programs for probationers, parolees, and furloughees. This Bureau spent much of 1980 implementing and administering the provisions of the recently passed Community Corrections Act, which provides State funding to local jurisdictions for the development of community-based corrections programs. Activities participated in or initiated by the Bureau of Adult Detention Facilities and Services during 1980 are briefly described. Tabular and graphic data relevant to the Division's work are provided.
