THIS MANUAL PROVIDES BASIC INFORMATION IN THE AREAS OF ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE, THE LAW IN RELATION TO PRIVATE POLICE, POLICE PROCEDURES AND INVESTIGATIVE TECHNIQUES, AND PROFICIENCY AREAS.
Abstract
BACKGROUND INFORMATION IS FIRST PROVIDED ON THE OHIO PEACE OFFICER TRAINING COUNCIL AND TRAINING ACT, AND THE RULES, REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES OF THE OHIO PEACE OFFICER TRAINING COUNCIL FOR PRIVATE POLICE WITH RESPECT TO THE ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE, THE MANUAL REPRINTS THE UNITED STATES BILL OF RIGHTS AND OUTLINES THE ROLE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, THE LAW ENFORCEMENT CODE OF ETHICS, AND THE CANNONS OF POLICE ETHICS. THE LAWS ON EVIDENCE, ARREST, SEARCH AND SEIZURE, MOTOR VEHICLE CRIMES, AND VEHICLE TRAFFIC ARE OUTLINED, AND INFORMATION IS PROVIDED ON THE LIABILITY OF PRIVATE POLICE AND THE LEGAL ASPECTS OF ADMISSIONS, STATEMENTS, AND CONFESSIONS. SUCH POLICE PROCEDURES AS INTERVIEWS, REPORT WRITING, ARRESTS, TESTIFYING IN COURT, HANDLING OF THE MENTALLY ILL, HANDLING OF JUVENILES, AND CROWD CONTROL ARE EXPLAINED. FINALLY, PROCEDURES FOR SELF DEFENSE, FIREARMS HANDLING, AND FIRST AID ARE DISCUSSED.
