Abstract
AN OLEA GRANT FOR $76,200 TO STUDY THE DESIGN OF A COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT WAS TO SERVE AS A MODEL FOR OTHER STATES AND ALLOW IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPLETE TRAFFIC ORIENTED LAW ENFORCEMENT COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS AUTHORIZED IN 1966. THE STUDY WAS CONDUCTED BY ERNST AND ERNST CONSULTING FIRM AND THE OHIO HIGHWAY PATROL. AN IBM 360/40 SYSTEM USED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE HANDLED THE ADDITIONAL LOAD OF THE OHIO LEADS SYSTEM IN CASE OF A BREAKDOWN. THE OHIO COMPUTER WILL CONTAIN INFORMATION ON STOLEN VEHICLES, STOLEN AND LOST LICENSE PLATES, VEHICLE REGISTRATION INFORMATION, WANTED PERSONS CONNECTED TO A LICENSE NUMBER, SUSPENDED AND REVOKED OPERATORS LICENSE INFORMATION, AND OPERATORS LICENSE RECORDS AND CONVICTIONS. INFORMATION WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE SAME BASIS TO ALL TERMINALS FROM NCIC. FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE SYSTEM (OHIO LEADS), INCLUDING A FILM, CAN BE MADE AVAILABLE FROM ERNST AND ERNST OR THE OHIO HIGHWAY PATROL.
