The 1998 annual report of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) covers activities and accomplishments during the year including a variety of research, statistical, demonstration, training, technical assistance, and information dissemination initiatives.
Abstract
The annual report notes major accomplishments related to space needs in juvenile detention and correctional facilities, balanced and restorative justice, underage drinking, serious and violent juvenile offenders, drug-free communities, juvenile gangs, juvenile accountability, juvenile mentoring, the Model Courts Program, and the National Youth Network. It also provides a snapshot of how states and U.S. territories are using formula and block grants from the OJJDP to improve their juvenile justice systems and prevent delinquency. Further it summarizes OJJDP efforts to help missing and exploited children and offers information about the number of juveniles taken into custody and several new surveys that will provide additional insights on juvenile detention and corrections issues. An appendix lists OJJDP publications released in 1998. Tables and figures
