This annual report outlines the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) initiatives and funds for fiscal year 2011.
Abstract
This report discusses OJP's commitment to outreach and collaboration with the criminal and juvenile justice fields, and describes OJP's innovative programs and technology, evidence-based programs and practices, and funds management. In this publication, OJP discusses how it identifies the most effective strategies for addressing crime and enhancing public safety by emphasizing the role of science in cost-effective decisionmaking; how it coordinates the resources of each of its program offices to help communities address children's exposure to violence, prevent crimes against children, and improve the ability of care and service providers to create healthy environments; how it supports those who guard the public safety through initiatives to improve officer safety and wellness, on the job and off, which have shown to be vital in ensuring greater justice and safety for all citizens; and finally, how it responsibly monitors nearly $10 billion represented in 14,000 active grants through the development of improved methods for overseeing grants which not only ensure the effective use of grant funds, but also strengthen partnerships with the criminal and juvenile justice community.
