THIS RECORDS MANAGEMENT STUDY, DATED MARCH 16, 1977, WAS ACCOMPLISHED FOR THREE WASHINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENTS, WHOSE 38 SWORN OFFICERS AND 5 CIVILIAN PERSONNEL SERVE 25,000 PEOPLE LIVING IN A 14.1 SQUARE MILE AREA.
Abstract
THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT WAS UNDERTAKEN TO ASSESS THE FEASIBILITY OF CONSOLIDATING THE RECORDS SYSTEMS OF THE THREE SEPARATE POLICE DEPARTMENTS. SINCE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT ALL THREE AGENCIES UTILIZE AN ALPHA SEARCH PROCESS TO LOCATE HARD COPY WITHIN NUMERIC FILES, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THIS COMMON DENOMINATOR WAS ALL THAT WAS NECESSARY FOR COMBINING THEIR RECORDS SYSTEMS. ...KAP
