A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SECURITY PRECAUTIONS UNDERTAKEN TO PROTECT ATHLETES AND SPECTATORS FROM TERRORIST ACTIVITIES AT THE 1976 MONTREAL OLYMPIC GAMES.
Abstract
THE SAFETY MEASURES INCORPORATED IN THE DESIGN OF THE MONTREAL OLYMPIC GROUNDS AND FACILITIES ARE OUTLINED. THE PLANNED DEPLOYMENT OF POLICE OFFICERS AND MILITARY PERSONNEL FOR THE PROTECTION OF VISITORS AND PARTICIPANTS IS ALSO DESCRIBED. FINALLY, SUCH PRECAUTIONS AS THE USE OF SPECIAL IDENTIFICATION PASSES, DEPLOYMENT OF UNDERCOVER INTELLIGENCE OFFICERS, SCREENING OF SUSPICIOUS LOOKING SPECTATORS, AND THE USE OF ARMED GUARDS TO PROTECT THE VEHICLES TRANSPORTING ATHLETES ARE DISCUSSED.
